Dan is rapidly making his mark through his rare ability to combine an unparalleled knowledge of experimental techniques with a deep understanding of narrative and the art of telling story on screen and stage.

After growing up in the desolate fens of east anglia, playing in bands and wanting to record all the others, Dan studied contemporary classical and electroacoustic music at Durham University with groundbreaking electronic pioneer Trevor Wishart, graduating top of his year. In this time his concert music was performed around the world with highlights including the Barbican Centre (London), Sage Gateshead (Gateshead, UK) Dixon Place (New York USA) and Aspen Music Festival (USA).

In 2011 Dan was awarded an AHRC scholarship to continue his study of experimental electronic music at University of Oxford, where he combined writing music with study of the enigmatic Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi. Scelsi’s innovative approach of electronic improvisation is an influence clearly found in Dan’s work to this day.

Dan’s professional journey took off in this period writing the scores and sound design to over 20 London theatre productions including The Importance of at Being Earnest (Haymarket), Now This Is Not The End (Arcola) and a major two month immersive theatre show from the iconic Hammer Films. In this time Dan was also building significant experience in the Film and TV world working with Sheridan Tongue as a composer’s assistant on productions such as Silent Witness (BBC), DCI Banks (ITV) and Summerhill (BBC Films), for all of which he provided additional music and guitar performances. This lead to other opportunities with Film/ TV composers such as Martin Phipps (whom Dan wrote additional music to Black Mirror for) and Alex Heffes.

Recently Dan has composed significant work for documentary television with his music scoring powerful and important documentary films for the BBC and Channel 4, including Panorama, Dispatches, as well as Netflix productions including Formula 1: Drive To Survive and Cable Girls.

In 2021 Dan’s track Chalk Road was used in the Radio 4 series Walking on Jupiter narrated by Stephen Graham and in 2022 Dan was commissioned to write the bespoke music for two adverts for Bowers & Wilkins. He continues to work as a music producer and mixer on records by Richard Walters, SOULS, Tom Adams and Sebastian Plano, and recently mixed the score to a major upcoming Netflix documentary series.
